What the fuck is a bliss ball you may be wondering? It’s a protein ball. But “protein ball” doesn’t sound very enticing, now does it? So I’m calling these bliss balls.

You’re most likely eating a protein ball (bliss ball) post-workout, when taking a break from work, when you’re searching the fridge for a snack, when you’re bored hungry, or when you’re on the go.

And when you have that tiny little moment to yourself to simply enjoy a delicious snack, well, that’s blissful.

These bliss balls can be made in a variety of ways, which is why I’m giving you a very basic recipe with different ways to spice it up (not literally). Actually, hell, you could totally make a Mayan bliss ball with a dash of cayenne and chocolate!

Gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free and easy to make! All you need is a food processor and the ingredients. I use Ancient Nutrition Vanilla Bone Broth Protein in these but feel free to use vanilla collagen or your favorite protein powder! (chocolate or vanilla works)

Okay, let’s get blissful!

P.S. these TOTALLY taste like the old school chewy bars.

Bliss Balls (makes ~14-18 balls)

Ingredients:

basic bliss balls:

  • 1 ½ cups gluten-free rolled oats (I use Bob’s Red Mill)

  • 2 scoops vanilla protein powder

  • 2 dates, pitted

  • ½ cup maple syrup

  • 3/4 cup cashew butter (or any creamy nut butter like peanut, almond, or hazelnut)

  • pinch of salt

  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips (I used these)

optional:

  • 1 tbsp. maca powder

  • 1 tbsp. cacao powder

  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice

  • roll-ins: shredded coconut, oats, cacao powder, crushed peanuts

Instructions:

  1. using a food processor or Vitamin, pulse oats until they resemble a flour-like consistency then add in dates and pulse to combine (until dates are completely chopped)

  2. transfer to a large mixing bowl and add in the rest of the ingredients except the chocolate chips and mix to combine until you reach a “smooth” consistency

  3. fold in the chocolate chips. roll batter into 1½” balls. once all the bliss balls are formed you can roll them into coconut shreds, cacao powder, oats, or crushed nuts for more flavor!

  4. serve & enjoy!

notes:

  • if you have kids (or are a kid at heart) you could make these fun by building a bliss ball bar and putting out different toppings to roll the balls in like coconut, melted dark chocolate, crushed peanuts, sprinkles, raw cacao, oats, whatever you’re feeling!

  • store these in the fridge for a week (or freeze for 2 months)

  • I recommend using natural nut butters because the natural oils make it easier to combine with the other ingredients

  • if you don’t have maple syrup, you can substitute with honey or agave
