The Skincare Routine Nobody Asked For

“Hey guys! A few of you have been asking about my skincare routine so…”

We’ve all seen it, we’ve all heard it, and we’ve all tuned in regardless if we asked or not.

Skincare is something that is unique to each individual. Just like our bodies, we all have different types of skin, therefore, different skincare routines.

As a teen, I had pretty decent skin, I’d definitely get the occasional zit and had some forehead bumps, but overall it wasn’t too awful. I’d say I definitely had combination skin, especially growing up in Ohio. Oily in the summer, dry in the winter. And a mix in the spring and fall. Luckily, I’ve lived in a few different climates enough to know that my skin does best when I’m living by the ocean. *packs bags*

But I also eat a healthy diet and am kind and gentle to my skin, so it’s responded very well to that.

I grew up with a mother who frequented both Sephora and the Chanel Counter. So I learned from a young age that your skin is something you should invest in (thanks mom!).

I was also never the kinda gal who caked makeup on her face…I’d rather eat cake than wear it on my face, so when I do wear makeup I keep it pretty minimal/natural—concealer under my eyes, mascara, and bronzer (around my face and on my eyelids). Oh and sunscreen. Can’t forget that.

Speaking of sunscreen, let’s circle back to my mom. She told me daily, daily, as a kid to wear sunscreen. Seriously. Ever since I was 12 my mom has been telling me about the importance of sunscreen and I am SO SO SO grateful for that. I’m a good listener (that’s something I get from my dad), but hey, it worked. I listened to her. And I wear sunscreen daily. Even on cloudy days. Even on the days I’m just sitting in my apartment working on my laptop. And even on the days I’m hungover. (pro tip: make sure to put your sunscreen on your chest and on the back of your hands!)

The skin on your face ages, y’all. It’s fine and delicate and one day it won’t be as glossy and smooth as we’d like. So lather up on some GOOD quality, natural sunscreen. You’ll thank me later.

But ever since I turned 25, skincare turned to something more than just sunscreen. I kinda actually became a serum hoarder…anyone else? I LOVE the feeling of having a fresh, makeup-free face slathered in serums. It keeps my skin hydrated and youthful. And ya know what, I’ve noticed a positive change to my skin. So I’m going to keep doin’ me, but also share with you guys what I do!

skincare

Morning Skincare Routine

  1. Cay Skin Face Moisturizer with SPF

  2. Origins Vitaminc C Eye Cream or The Ordinary Caffine Eye Serum (hot tip: keep both in the fridge)

  3. Sunday Riley Good Genes (yes, it is worth it)

  4. Ice roll or gua sha my face (helps with depuffing)

Nighttime Skincare Routine

  1. Remove makeup (if I have any on) with Farmmacy Green Clean Cleanser or coconut oil/avocado oil if I’m out of my Farmacy cleanser

  2. The Ordinary Retinoid

  3. Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Pore Correcting Serum

  4. Sunday Riley Luna (if I have it on-hand…that sh*t ain’t cheap)

  5. Once a week I’ll apply the Cocokind Overnight Mask

  6. And if I’m feeling dry and in desperate need of some hydration this little combo is amazing for hydrating your face/lips!

That’s it! Simple and easy.

P.S. I now keep my skincare products in my mini makeup fridge in my bathroom and it’s game-changing. Putting on cold serums feels sooo good!
